At this Festival took their first steps: the creator of "The Return of the Idiot" Sasa Gedeon; winner of an Oscar for the film "Quiero Ser" Florian Gallenberger; Julia Loktev, author of the shocking personal documentary "Moment of Impact"; Marcin Wrona, one the most talented members of the young Polish generation of filmmakers; Leszek David, multiple award winner at Krakow Film Festivals; and Gyorgy Palfi, creator of the hotly discussed film at this year's Cannes Film Festival "Taxidermy".
Besides competing for individual awards, for a few years now at the "Etiuda" Festival, European colleges have fought for the Special Golden Dinosaur Award, given to the best film school on the Old Continent.
In addition to the awards intended for students and schools, during the opening inauguration party is also handed out the Special Golden Dinosaur for an outstanding teacher who successfully combines his/her own artistic output with educational work at art schools. Past recipients have been: Jerzy Kucia from the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts; Kazimierz Karabasz from the Lodz Film School; and Paul Driessen from the German Kunsthochschule in Kassel.
The 2006 recipient was Wojciech Marczewski, the memorable creator of such narrative films: "Dreszcze"(Shivers), "Klucznik"(Housemaster), and "Ucieczka z kina Wolność" (Escape from the Liberty Cinema) and lecturer at many film schools in England, Switzerland, and Denmark, as well as the founder of the Andrzej Wajda Masters School of Directing in Warsaw. During the last edition of festival the award went to Estonia - to Priita Pärn - one of the most versatile Estonian animation artists and also outstanding teacher on this field in film schools in Norway, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Holland and England.
The "Etiuda&Anima" Festival is also an opportunity to present the output of masters of the short subject film format, and creators of documentaries, narrative, experimental, and animated films. Animated films have especially aroused the interest of the festival organizers. This started in 1996 with the organizing of the Krakow Animated Film Workshop, which ran side by side with our Festival and was prepared under the direction of professor Jerzy Kuci from the Animated Film Studio at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts in cooperation with the Swiss Foundation Pro Helvetia.
