ABROAD

The Polish Filmmakers Association cooperates with several dozen similar organisations all over the world. PFA and its part SUGGEST: subsidiary unit, subsection, ZAPA (Union of Audiovisual Authors and Producers) are members of the most important and influential international organisations that are active in the fields of audiovisual creation, its promotion, protection of authors’ legal rights and support for film production locally and globally. These organisations are:

through SFP/ZAPA - AGICOA, CISAC.

FERA (Fédération Europenne des Réalisateurs de l'Audiovisuel; Federation of European Film Directors), based in Brussels, represents over 11,000 authors from 28 countries. As a non-governmental organisation, it participates actively in the work of the European Commission, European Parliament, European Council, OMPI, UNESCO and Eureka Audiovisuel. FERA is part of the European Bureau for Cinematography and Television (BECT). Since its creation in 1980, FERA has dealt with such issues as: the role of European cinema abroad (promotion of a European environment fostering creation and circulation of European works), authors’ legal rights, harmonising issues of authors’ and related rights within the European Commission, and problems of culture and the audiovisual industry.
On behalf of the audiovisual sector, FERA leads negotiations with politicians, members of government, the European Parliament and the European Commission, lobbying for creation of a coherent system for supporting the audiovisual branch in Europe. FERA participated in creating important documents and programmes such as: the Directors’ Charter of Rights, the Directive “Television without Borders", and programmes supporting national cinematography in the EU. FERA is currently leading a campaign to implement the European Cinematography Directive.

CISAC (Confédération Internationale des Sociétes d'Auteurs et Compositeurs), established in 1926, is one of the oldest associations of creative professions in the world. This non-governmental organisation has its seat in Paris and subsidiaries in Singapore and Buenos Aires. CISAC is active in acknowledging and protecting authors’ rights. It unites 199 national unions and associations from over 100 countries that represent over 2 million creators: composers, writers, playwrights, audiovisual artists, and other artists and designers. Its main aims are: protection of authors’ legal rights internationally and on the European level; ensuring protection and observance of these legal rights and common management rules; coordination, promotion and development of activities of member associations, and representing the interests of professionals in an IT society.

AGICOA (Association de Gestion Internationale Collective des Ouevres Audiovisuelles) - Established in 1981 in Geneva, its main aim is to protect producers’ rights. As a neutral non-governmental organisation, it trucks ??? SUGGEST: tracks? and distributes royalties on retransmission of the products of independent producers. AGICOA possesses a huge database of over 400,000 titles of audiovisual works, which allows the organisation to execute ??? SUGGEST: handle? distribute? collect? royalties because of SUGGEST with regard to cable TV transmissions. Since 2002, SUGGEST ADD: PFA President Jacek Bromski has been a member of the AGICOA’s Management Board.

CIFEJ (International Centre of Films for Children and Young People) - An international non-governmental organisation of professionals dedicated to promoting excellence in the audiovisual media for young audiences, founded in 1955 under the auspices of UNESCO and UNICEF. Today, CIFEJ retains operational relations with UNESCO and consultative status with UNICEF. The CIFEJ secretariat has been based in Montreal, Canada since 1990. CIFEJ’s aims are to enrich the lives of children and to promote a media environment respectful of the dignity and rights of children and young people around the world; to stimulate the development, production and distribution of high-quality and culturally diverse children’s film, television, and new media; and to support the media charter embedded in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

FIPRESCI (Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique, The International Federation Of Film Critics) - Founded in 1930 and based in Brussels, FIPRESCI is composed of national organisations of film critics and the film press. It is the most prominent organisation of its type in the world; its prestigious awards are given during such film festivals as those in Venice and Cannes. PFA’s Circle of Film Critics has been a member of FIPRESCI for many years.
